The workshop was kept fastidiously neat. More so than the rest of the rooms in his house. It was the cleanest and most organized room in the house. Despite his packrat tendencies, he knew that a clean workshop was a safe and productive one. It was both a mundane and magical workshop, letting him work on simple wood carvings or the delicate intracies of a universe in the same room.

He sat, half dressed and hair tied back, on a wooden stool setting up a stasis field of some sort over a work bench. On the bench was a sliver of shiny silvery blue metal. A shard of a sword he had picked up in the Nexus. The shard had tried to turn him good, then evil, then young, then sane, then insane, but as he was not always totally good, nor totally evil but completely and utterly irrivokably nuetral that it couldn't do anything to him. As for his age, his shape was of his own choosing and he could chose a younger form if he so wished. Sanity came and went as it pleased, no sword fragment was going to change that. That was not what caught his interest though.

No, today, Alexander was interested in trying to reconstruct the sword using the shard as a base pattern and try and weave out what had been into what would be. It was easy enough, really, it just took a lot of fine tunning and delicate work.

THe stasis field was set, rotating slowly. Picking up the shard in a pair of tweezers he set it into the field. It shimmered for a moment and then glowed a steady blue. He picked up another instrument from the work bench, a thin piece of wire, He pushed the wire into the field and drew it out from the shard several times creating a thin spidery web. Still using the wire he poked a few holes in the web into another deminsion.

Satisfied, he leaned back and watched it for a moment, before scooting his stool over to another work bench. This one empty. He stared at it for a long moment before waving his hand over it. A thin three demensional network of interconnecting lines appeared before him. He studyied it for a long moment before murmurring, "If I was a soul shard... where would I be?"

"Ahh... I'm more of a free form eater. Tend to make things by smushing all sorts of food together. Drove my wife mad." He tapped his chin thoughtfully, "I may have some rabbit stew though..."

"Alright then." This leads to a flurry of movement as the stew is found... checked to see if it's still any good (it was, not even a hint of green fuzzy stuff) then heating it up, scooping it into bowls and pouring of ale. Spoons were cleaned and placed (nothing matched by the way) and then the stew was plunked in front of Nicholas as Alexander took a seat for himself across from him. "I made it myself, but I won't be heartbroken if you don't like it."

"I've been eating camp food for quite a while now. It should be just fine." He takes a bite. "I like it."

"Excellent..." Or so he started to say. Trey appeared in between the bowls and immediately made a demand for food. "You greedy bugger, I fed you earlier," Alexander said, but he fished out a piece of meat and fed it to the fire lizard.

"Oh, what's that?" He put his spoon down and came over to see Trey.

"This is Trey. He's what's known as a Fire Lizard. They're like cats, but a bit smarter, and empathic. And he's spoilt rotten." He shook his spoon at Trey, who chirrup smugly before eating his piece of meat. "Trey, say hello to Nicholas, he doesn't believe we exist."

Trey chirruped to Nicholas before asking something to Alexander. "Yes, he is."

"What did he say?" He reached out a hand to Trey to let him sniff it.

Trey sniffed the hand with the grace of a noble before ducking his head under and shamelessly demanding scritches.

"He wanted to know if you were my new friend," he said with a smile that seemed to indicate that word friend meant a bit something more.

Nick complied cheerfully. "Ah, I see. Nosy little thing."

"Very. Just like his friend. But he's been a staltwart compainion to me through the long years. Sometimes I think I'd be lost without him."

Trey hummed happily at the attention.

"He likes you."

"I'm happy that I've gained his approval." He keeps petting the fire-lizard.

Trey then gave a series of inquring noises to Alexander as he got scritched.

"No, he doesn't normally walk around naked. It's just because he thinks he's in a dream." Then some more noises. "No, I didn't burn his clothes, they're in the bedroom. He seems to like prancing around like this. And I don't mind watching him."

This earned a flick of the wings.

"I imagine you figured out what we were talking about. So I won't translate."

"Am I offending him? Perhaps I could put some clothes on."

Alexander chuckled at this one. "No, you aren't offending him. He was just curious as to why you weren't wearing any clothes. It's not something he sees that often, as most humans prefer to wear them."

"Well, it's warm and hallucinatory in here, so..."

"So you decided to prance about naked for me to see," There's a naughty grin on his face at this. "Hoping that I would take shameless advantage of you, yes?"

He stretched a bit. Damn, that boy is way too skinny. "Perhaps."

"Eat." He said gesturing with his spoon, "You need some meat on your bones. Sex later. I do have things to do after all. Like figuring out what exactly I'm going to do with you."

He resumes eating. "What are the options?"

"I could conciveably keep you here. Though it may get rather dull for you as I'm often gone for long stretches of time. I could take you with me on some of those long streches of time, but that would require some modifications of you." He scooped up some stew, handing a few pieces to Trey. "I could send you back to your home and let you come and go as you please. Which would require me talking with Hedge, as he has the pass I gave you."

"Modifications? What sort of modifications?" Nick frowned, eating slowly.

"Well, for starters, heal you up some. Then there is the whole problem about you being human, which rather limits the enviroments that you can visit. It would just be a sort of ... making you a bit more capable of handling different enviornments, and being able to protect yourself should something seperate us in a hostile place."

"That would be very useful!" Nick can just think of the possibilities.

"Mmmhmm. Makes your survial chances in a star that much more likely. Though you wouldn't be able to keep the modifications on your home world. There are rules against that."
